If you’re a homeowner, you have probably had to deal with a pest at one time or another. Pests come in all varieties. They can be ants, flies or rodents. They can even sometimes cause damage to your house. Here are some tips for dealing with these pests.

Stuff steel wool into holes that pests could enter through. Steel wool is too tough for any pest to chew through, even rats and mice. Openings measuring more than 1/2 an inch need stuffing. Animals can get through very small openings.

People who have problems with flying pests need to repair all of the screens in their home. Screens will also keep most crawling bugs out of your home. Fix all the gaps in screens so that bugs can’t enter.

If you have a water leak, fix it. Pests gravitate toward sources of water. They can actually sense a drip from a pretty far distance. Don’t get in your own way when it comes to pest control. Some simple work on your part can prevent pests in your home.

Mint Leaves

Mint will repel mice and other pest as well. A group of plants situated along your home’s foundation will repel them. This will make the foundation undesirable for mice to live in. If you’ve got mice, sprinkle some mint leaves near the affected areas. While this will usually do, make sure the mint leaves are fresh.

When trees fall down in the yard, dispose of them. Cut the trunk and the branches for firewood. You can sell it, use it, or give it away. Just remember to get rid of the stump as well. Termites will make a beeline for the stump if it just left outside.

Do you have rodents inside your home? Search for small cracks that these small pests can squeeze through. Use scouring pads and poison to fill such cracks. Sometimes mustard oil or one other repellent can work.

Are you the owner of a camper or travel trailer? If so, this is a prime target for rodents. Natural repellents exist that can keep them at bay, however. Small sachets of rodent repellent are nontoxic and pleasant smelling, while preventing mice from making their way into your camper or RV.

A major living spot for pests is your drains. Clean and maintain the drains at least monthly. You can use liquid drain cleaners or run a snake down the drain. Debris can cause mold growth, which provides pests with an excellent living area.

In order to keep pests out of your home, you need to find out how they are coming in. For instance, there could be a small gap in a window that is bringing in spiders, or maybe your cat or dog is bringing outside insects into your home. Whenever you determine the method that your insect is entering, you can figure out the solution to the problem so that the insect doesn’t come in again.

Recycling may be a haven for pests. If possible, keep the items you plan on recycling out of your home. If this is not doable, then rinse everything you put in your inside bin. Seal up your recycling bins to keep pests away.

Neighbors can be a great help when you are facing pest problems. In some areas, you neighbors will be experiencing the same problems with pests that you are. Additionally, if you do get them out of your home, they will only come back if someone by you has them, as well. Share tips with your neighbors and let them use your products if they do not seem ready to take action.
